Can a Chiropractic Adjustment Help Me?

Chiropractic is the leader in the holistic and alternative medicine fields. It is a whole body healing art which works with the spine, joints of the extremities, the cranium, and soft tissues.

Traditional medical care uses drugs and surgery to treat symptoms. Chiropractic care, instead, goes to the source of the problem. It gently and safely encourages the body to heal itself naturally from the inside out. Many people come for chiropractic care for pain relief, but that is only a small part of the way that chiropractic can help.

Why Do I Need Chiropractic Care?

Your parents and teachers have probably told you to “stand up straight” and watch your posture. Hopefully, you have taken that advice. You will look better and have more energy if you do. However, there is actually much more to posture than most people realize. Your posture is the position of your ligaments, muscles, and spinal bones, and their condition.

If posture is out of balance, then the spine is out of balance. The imbalances in the spine are referred to as “vertebral subluxations.” Because the spinal cord runs inside the spinal column, any vertebral subluxations interfere with the power of our nerve flow. Stress is the major factor in the cause of subluxations. This stress can be physical, chemical or emotional.

Types of Stressors

Physical

Can be anything from a whiplash injury to the day-to-day wear and tear that comes from spending hours seated in front of a computer. The birth process itself can exert 40-60 lbs. of pressure on the spine, followed by play ground falls, sports and twist. (Posture cards for families to check your children available).

Chemical

Can be caused by poor a diet or by breathing environmental pollutants. These stressors upset the body’s chemistry. This, in turn, disrupts the tone of the muscles and ligaments, which allows the vertebra to subluxate.

Mental

Can be caused by emotional trauma or just the stress of everyday living. This causes the ligaments and muscles to overly tighten and allow the vertebrae to move out of their proper position.

Subluxation Begins Early

The typical first sign of subluxation in children is a posture imbalance. Once your posture shows noticeable combinations of imbalance, then subluxation degeneration has begun, the spine will go through several stages of decay. First, the misalignment weakens the area around itself; and then the whole region (other vertebrae) shift together, leaving the spine crooked bent out of shape, creating tension on the spinal cord and pressure on the spinal nerves. The nervous system begins to lose its ability to function normally. Then vertebrae and joints lose bone and cartilage (like osteoarthritis). Our healing and repair process begins to add bone to strengthen the misalignment, leading to bone spurs. The bone spurs are abnormal bone growth that impairs the function of the vertebrae. If neglected long enough, this “subluxation degeneration” will result in complete fusion of the bones. This is due to a process similar to the process the body uses when it is mending a broken bone, where the body attempts to fuse the adjacent bones together.

If this condition is not corrected, our organs and glands cannot function properly, creating abnormal body chemistry, disease, and accelerated degeneration. When the spine becomes misaligned, the central nervous system cannot communicate with the rest of the body. That is when many problems begin to appear, even those that are seemingly unrelated to our spine, such as allergies or asthma.

At one time it was routine in schools to check our children’s posture, but that is not always the case today. With the frequent use of overloaded backpacks, hours spent playing video games, and less time involved in physical activities, our children are at risk more than ever for these types of problems. Proper diagnosis and intervention from a chiropractor early in life can make a big difference in our children’s health years later.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help Me?

Chiropractors focus on the entire structure of the body, not just the injured area. Because of this, they can often detect and help to prevent injury that might normally be overlooked or ignored. Their focus is on the nervous system and biomechanics (movement in relation to posture). The body is designed to heal itself. By utilizing such methods as spinal manipulation and spinal decompression Chiropractic care has an amazing potential to assist the body as it repairs itself and recovers from injuries. Following are just some of the conditions that can be corrected through chiropractic care:

  • Abdominal pain/gas
  • Allergies
  • Anxiety
  • Arthritis pain
  • Back pain
  • Bursitis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Chronic pain
  • Constipation
  • Depression
  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Dizziness
  • Extremity pain
  • Fatigue in muscles or tendons
  • Headaches
  • Heartburn
  • Joint swelling
  • Lack of energy
  • Low back pain
  • Memory loss
  • Migraines
  • Morning stiffness
  • Muscle spasms
  • Muscular aching, burning, etc.
  • Neck pain
  • Numbness and tingling sensations
  • Nerve pain
  • Poor posture
  • PMS
  • Restless legs/feet
  • Sciatica
  • Scoliosis
  • Sinusitis
  • Slipped Disc
  • Swelling in fingers/toes
  • TMJ
  • Whiplash

What Will the Chiropractor Do?

A chiropractor can assess spinal misalignments by observing a patient’s posture and through x-rays. He then corrects these misalignments using several techniques that will restore motion and allow the body to regain proper nerve flow. Keeping a good rhythm of adjustments helps to keep the power flowing to every part of the body and allows the body to heal itself.

I specialize in the following treatments, which may be used individually or in combination to provide easy and convenient solutions for your discomfort:

Spinal Adjustment

A gentle process to carefully meet your personal adjustment needs over time. I use many adjusting techniques from non-force to traditional, tailoring the techniques for each patient and utilizing such equipment as a spinal decompression machine.

Exercise & Meditation

Exercise or meditation techniques to assist in maintenance of your body. Acute care skills are for pain management of a condition.

Soft Tissue Techniques

Sports injury treatment handles muscle, tendon, and ligament imbalance, scar tissue, hardening, tension, trigger points, and ankylosis with soft tissue techniques.

Additional Therapy

Electrical modalities may be used for inflammation, pain control, herniated discs, degeneration, bone spurs, sports and car injury, and soft tissue rehabilitation (muscle, tendon, and imbalance, scars, hardening, tension, and ankylosis).

Applied Kinesiology

The AK basics or used to supplement other care. In AK, the main premise is that every organ has a relationship with a corresponding muscle, termed the “viscero-somatic relationship.” (Viscero = organ and somatic = body).

Nutrition Response Testing

A relatively healthy body can have weakness from deficiencies, toxins, past lifestyle, or other alternative challenges that do not create symptoms at their beginning. If these issues are not addressed, however, they will lead to unpleasant symptoms.

I believe chiropractic, with my experience and proven track record of success in relieving sciatica symptoms, is an effective remedy to reduce and eliminate your suffering. Please contact me for a free consultation to discuss your concerns.
